FAQ National Survey of Artists
Thank you for your interest in the National Survey of Artists. By participating, you will contribute to a better understanding of the lives and livelihoods of artists and creators in the United States. Your responses will help shape strategies and solutions for how best to support working artists.
Survey Purpose
This survey is designed to learn about the lives and livelihoods of people who may engage in artistic activities across the United States. Survey questions ask about artistic activities you may do, as well as about your work, how you support yourself, and your overall well-being.
After the survey closes, we’ll release a report highlighting findings, key learnings, and takeaways for the public. Additionally, fully anonymous survey data will be made publicly available, which will allow anyone to use it for non-commercial purposes to explore questions they are curious about.

This survey is fielded by the nonprofit research organization NORC at the University of Chicago in partnership with the Strategic National Arts Alumni Project (SNAAP), and is funded by the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation.

You are under no obligation to participate, and your decision will not impact you in any way.

Additionally, you can halt the survey at any point without facing any repercussions.

Any details that could potentially identify you, such as your name and email address, will not be associated with your responses.

Only generalized findings will be published.
An overall summary of the insights gathered from this survey will be shared in a public report, and fully anonymous survey data will be made publicly available. However, neither the report nor the data will include information that could identify you personally.
