Carole Rosenstein
Carole Rosenstein is Professor of InterArts, Professor of Arts Management, and Professor of Folklore (by courtesy) at George Mason University in Virginia, USA. She studies cultural policy and the social life of the arts and culture with a focus on cultural democracy and cultural equity.
Her most recent book is Understanding Cultural Policy, 2e (Routledge 2024). Dr. Rosenstein holds a PhD in cultural anthropology and employs qualitative approaches and interpretation as well as quantitative data and analysis in her work. From 2000 – 2007, she worked on the cultural policy portfolio at the Urban Institute, a policy research center or “think tank” in Washington, DC.
She has led many large-scale research studies, including commissions from the National Endowment for the Arts, the National Endowment for the Humanities, the Institute for Museum and Library Services, and the American Academy of Arts and Sciences. Currently, she is working with NEH, NEA, and AAAS to construct the National Inventory of Cultural Organizations.
The Impact of the COVID-19 Pandemic on Arts and Design Alumni
The authors of this report, Dr. Rachel Skaggs, Dr. Jennifer L. Novak-Leonard and Dr. Jeff Barbee, provide insight into arts and design graduates whose work is — or before the pandemic was — in the arts, design, or creative realm by examining their working lives, economic lives, and the skills that they needed to attain or update during the first two years of the pandemic in the United States.
